A ray of hope as the third media briefing on Marburg is held
During the third media and civil society briefing last Sunday, the Minister of Health, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, provided encouraging updates on the ongoing response to the Marburg virus outbreak. In particular, he highlighted the fact that the past week has seen a significant increase in recoveries, outpacing the number of deaths and demonstrating Rwanda's resilience in the face of adversity.

Minister Nsanzimana said the government had successfully administered more than 600 of the 700 doses of vaccine it had previously received, prioritizing health workers, especially those in intensive care units. With the recent arrival of an additional 1,000 doses, the country is well positioned to strengthen its defenses against the virus.

Referring to WHO travel advice, Dr. Brian Chirombo, WHO Country Representative in Rwanda, reassured travelers and business people that no travel or trade restrictions are needed at this time. He cited effective control measures and strong collaboration with the Government of Rwanda and other health partners.
As Rwanda navigates this challenge, the message is clear: community involvement and strategic health practices, including personal hygiene and early symptom reporting, are critical to overcoming this outbreak.
