Minister Nsanzimana visits southern province to inspect primary healthcare service delivery

Nyanza, Huye 10-11 September 2026 - Minister of Health Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana began a two-day working visit to the Southern Province, focusing on primary and secondary healthcare facilities.

On Day 1, Minister Nsanzimana visited facilities in Nyanza District - including Nyamiyaga Health Centre, Gati and Gasoro Health Posts, and Nyanza District Hospital. The visit provides an opportunity to evaluate service quality and engage directly with frontline healthcare workers, starting with Community Health Workers, highlighting their critical role as the backbone of Rwanda’s healthcare system.

In Nyanza District, Minister Nsanzimana joined students from various schools who were celebrating the start of the new academic year in a friendly volleyball game. In the conversation that followed, he reminded them that they only have one body and urged them to protect their health by staying physically active and avoiding drugs, tobacco, vapes, and alcohol, which impair brain development and lead to chronic illnesses and lost dignity.

On the second day of his working visit to the Southern Province, Minister Nsanzimana visited Huye’s Rango Health Center and Eden Medical Center in Huye District, engaging with health workers on elevating the quality of care. He also visited the Huye Isange Rehabilitation Center, a facility dedicated to supporting recovery from alcohol and other drugs dependency.

While in Huye, Minister Nsanzimana attended a friendly basketball game featuring staff from CHUB and students from the University of Rwanda, Huye College. Addressing the youth, he offered a reflection on substance abuse: "No one has ever been able to finish alcohol, but alcohol and drugs can easily finish the person who consumes them." He called on young people to safeguard their health and future prospects.
