The 4th Scientific Conference on Diabetes held in Kigali
Kigali, March 11, 2018 --- The East Africa Diabetes Group (EADSG) in collaboration with the Rwanda Ministry of Health organizes the 4th Annual East African Diabetes Study Group Congress and Scientifica conference on Diebetes in Kigali/Rwanda from 12-14 March at Kigali convention Centre in Kigali, Rwanda.
The congress themed as, “ Prevention of Diabetes and its complications” aims at discussing the latest development in treatment of Diabetes, and will contribute towards measures of addressing challenges posed by an increasing burden of Diabetes and other non communicable diseases in East Africa and beyond.
At the opening ceremony, the Minister of State in charge of Public Health and Primary Health Care, Dr. Ndimubanzi Patrick says,“ hosting you here in Rwanda and engaging in conversation with Rwanda as an example is not only timely. The Government of Rwanda is committed to fighting NCDs and mitigating their impact so as to empower our population to live as healthy and prosperous lives as possible. In order to do this, we have pulled strength from our Rwandan principles of equity, integration, and sustainability”.
Today, in Rwanda all 42 District Hospitals and more than 70 % of Health centers have integrated NCD Clinics, complete with diabetes testing, treatment, and care as well as regular supervision and mentorship. At community level, the health sector initiated community check-ups covered by the national Community Based Health Insurance known as Mutuelle de Santé as well as Diabetes and other NCDs screening, treatment and care services becoming more equitable decentralized and closer to people in need.
All along the 4 day congresss, health care professionals will be given an opportunity to discuss with diabetes experts, highlighting the importance of prevention of Diabetes, how to overcome it, knowing its serious complications, and learn up-to-date methods used in diabetes treatment.
Since its initiation in 2011, the East Africa Diabetes Group Study Group has aimed to encourage and support research in diabetes field, to enable quick disffusing of acquired knowledge that field and to facilitate the application of this knowledge in the East African Region and beyond.
