Rwanda to receive batch of Chinese medical doctors
Kigali, September 2022: The government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Health and the People’s Republic of China through its embassy in Rwanda have today witnessed an MoU signing ceremony between the two parties.
The partnership entailed an extended agreement of China to deploy the 22nd batch of 15 medical personnel who will be working in Rwanda for the next 5 years.
Their focus areas will be General Surgery, Anaesthesia, Orthopedics, Gyenecology, Acupuncture and dental surgery among others and their placement instutions shall be mainly Masaka and Kibungo hospitals.
“These medical practitioners bring an important contribution in the Rwandan health sector, because they will be coming to facilitate us in areas where we have gaps,” commented Dr. Daniel Ngamije during the ceremony.
Minister Ngamije added the medical personnel do not only support in human resource efforts, but also in education and capacity building as well as infrastructure provision.
The doctors will be dispatched to Rwanda under a mutual agreement between the two countries that has been underway for the last 40 years and has seen more than 270 Chinese doctors sent to Rwanda in the same framework.
According to the Chinese ambassador to Rwanda, Wang Xuekun, this agreement is one of the symbols that depict the bilateral relationship between the people of China and Rwanda.
“The Chinese and Rwandan people share deep friendship and collaboration for success and working together. For so long, Chinese medical practitioners have been here for knowledge exchange, and both sides have benefited and that is why we are moving on with the development,” he echoed.
In addition to the support with competent doctors in priority areas, China has also contributed to donation of medical equipments to Masaka and Kibungo Hospitals as well as support related to the COVID-19 response.
Also to mention, Masaka expansion project is being carried out under the support of the People’s Republic of China also.
