On Friday 30 July 2010, the Mayor of Kigali City, Dr Aisa Kirabo Kacyira officiated at the Handover of mobile phones to community Health Workers from the three districts of Kigali City (GASABO, KICUKIRO and NYARUGENGE) at Nyamirambo Regional Stadium. Addressing Community Health Workers, Dr Aisa Kirabo Kacyira commended them for the work they do to sensitize the population on health programmes and urged them to work harder to promote better health especially for the mother and the child. The Mayor further urged Community Health Workers to participate actively in Government development programmes such as Umurenge SACCO and Land consolidation meant to help them fight poverty. Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira also urged Community Health Workers to play a role in sensitizing the population to fighting malnutrition and observing proper hygiene.

Rwanda to establish an Institute for Transplantation |

The Ministry of Health and the Minimally Invasive Surgery Training institute in Kent (MISTIK), UK signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Rwanda Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (RIMIS) and Rwanda Institute for Transplantation (RIT). The Memorandum of Understanding was signed yesterday 29 July 2010 by Dr Richard SEZIBERA, Minister of Health and Dr Juliet MBABAZI, CEO, KFH for the Government of Rwanda as well as Dr. Martin SHERIFF, the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery Training institute in Kent (MISTIK). According to the MOU the Ministry of Health will be responsible for providing financial resources for local needs and human resources, KFH will provide the venue for the establishment of RIMIS and RIT and human resources for effective management of RIT whereas MISTIK will provide expertise to both RIMIS and RIT at minimal rates to cover legitimate expenses.

CHWs in Eastern Province get phones |

The Minister of Health Dr Richard Sezibera handed over cell phones to Community Health Workers in Eastern Province. The ceremony took place in Gatsibo District, Eastern Province on Friday 16 July 2010. Addressing Community Health Workers, Minister Sezibera commended them for the work they do to sensitize the population on health programmes and urged them to continue working hard to promote better health. The Minister of Health told Community Health Workers that those phones are given by His Excellence the President of the Republic to facilitate them do their work and urged them to use them for that purpose and not for their own interests.

Rulindo residents get a hospital |

A foundation stone for the construction of Kinihira Hospital in Rulindo District was laid last Tuesday 13 July 2010 by the Minister of Health Dr. Richard SEZIBERA. Adressing Kinihira residents, the Minister told them that Government is doing its best to put in place the necessary infrastructures to help them access quality services and urged them on proper use and maintenance of these infrastructures. He reminded them that the hospital is a fulfillment of a promise by his Excellence the President of the Republic Paul Kagame and urged them to work hard and achieve what they pledged to achieve in their performance contracts (Imihigo).
