The Ministry of Health awarded journalists who have contributed to disseminating information and educating the public on health issues. The awarding ceremony took place in Kigali Serena Hotel on 21 January 2010 on the occasion of the celebration of the 12th edition of the International Media Health Day.
Awards included certificates of Excellence, lap tops and communication materials among others. An air ticket to Equatorial Guinea was also promised to two journalists to go to cover the 60th Session of World Health Organization Regional Committee. The Executive Secretary of the National Aids Control Commission, Dr Anita Asiimwe was also awarded a certificate as the Media friendly person in the health sector for the year 2009 for having dedicated her time to help journalists get the information they need.
Addressing journalists the Minister of Health Dr Richard Sezibera recognized the role played by media people in promoting better health and urge them to continue the good work and help the Ministry fight maternal and child mortality which is one of the major challenges of the health sector. The Minister also recognized the critical role of the media in the fight against H1N1 pandemic last year and urged them to continue the good partnership with Ministry of Health.
