The Minister of Health received on Thursday 21 January 2010 a delegation from the United States Fund for UNICEF coming to Rwanda to see the progress in health sector and efforts being made to accelerate child and maternal survival. The Minister of Health Dr Richard Sezibera briefed the delegation on the health sector major achievements with an emphasis on community health insurance to increase access to health care and performance based financing to motivate the health sector staff to deliver quality service. The Minister however mentioned the geographical access to health services as a big challenge but which is being addressed by investing in ambulances purchase.
Mrs Lynn Stratford, the Chief of Staff and team leader commended Rwanda health sector remarkable progress and promised further partnership in this area. The US Fund delegation included, among others, Jackie Shapiro the United Nations for Zonta international and Bruce S. Gordon, former President and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The US Fund for Unicef has a mission of promoting the survival, protection and development of all children worldwide through fundraising, advocacy and education. In Rwanda the US Fund for Unicef supports, among others, the family package and other initiatives sponsored by Imbuto Foundation.
