Dr. Innocent NYARUHIRIRA is Minister of State in the Ministry of Health in charge of HIV/AIDS and other epidemics. He has held the Cabinet-level post since its creation in November 2002. Prior to that, he held the posts of Director of the main hospital of Rwanda in the capital city, the Central Hospital of Kigali and Head of the Department of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at the University Hospital of Butare Province.
He is a member of several boards and organizations. He has served as Chairman of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM)/Global Fund for Rwanda up to December 2004.
Dr NYARUHIRIRA has constantly been dedicated to the community services and continues to operate and lecture while holding his post as Minister of State.
Dr. NYARUHIRIRA received his medical degree at the University of Burundi, and received specialized licenses in general surgery, orthopedics, and trauma surgery at the Free University of Brussels. He is married with two children.
