The National Centre for Blood Transfusion supplies blood and blood products that fulfill the national and international quality requirements, for all the patients in need countrywide.
Major responsibilities:
- Promotes blood donation based exclusively on the voluntary non remunerated system
- Organises and develops all blood transfusion structures all over the country
- Collects, screens and distributes blood for transfusion to all patients in need
- Implements quality assurance applied to transfusion activities
- Organises training for staffs involved in blood transfusion activities
- Monitors and evaluates blood transfusion activities in the country
Units within the National Centre for Blood Transfusion
a) CNTS Kigali unit: main blood transfusion centre with 60% blood collected and distributed
- Supply blood for Eastern province, Kigali Town, a part of South and West and North Provinces
- National centre : blood processing, quality control, training
